bittersuess pictures was launched in 2008 by five managing partners from the fields of feature, documentary and commercial film production. The company focuses primarily on the development and production of feature films for cinematic release as well as documentaries. The managing directors are Pepe Danquart (producer and director), Robert Gold (producer), Susa Kusche (producer), Uwe Spiller (director and producer) and Andrea Roman (producer). The first project, SHAHADA, was produced at the beginning of 2009. It was developed as a co-production between the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg and the ZDF “Das Kleine Fernsehspiel” under the direction of Burhan Qurbani. In 2010, bittersuess pictures will also undertake a German-Austrian co-production: the feature film LIEBE (LOVE), to be directed by Christian Alvart. After two successful US studio productions, Alvart returns to German language film with LIEBE. Also in 2010, shooting for the international film adaptation of the book Run, Boy, Run, by Uri Orlev is to begin under the direction of Pepe Danquart. Further projects in development include the drama SANTIAGO, based on a short story by Alexander Osang and to be directed by Christian Schwochow, whose highly acclaimed debut feature NOVEMBERKIND was in theaters at the end of 2008.
